Serene School Picnic Leaves a Mark
School excursions provide students with a good source of knowledge and explore the environment around them. It also develops a deep love for nature to acquaint them with happiness in the outside world and develops their confidence, leadership and problem solving skills. I teach at a government school in Rajahmundry. During Dusshera, we went for a school picnic to Tirumala which is well known for its Tirupati temple.
The iconic temple of Lord Sri VenkateswaraSwarmy is a fine specimen of Dravidian architecture. There are numerous popular places around Tirumala such as Swami Pushkarini, Sri BhuVarahaSwamy Temple, Goparbham Gardens and Akash Ganga water falls. We were offered a free darshan to glimpse of the Lord within the compartments of the Vaikuntham Queque. Some of the major highlights of the trip are mentioned below: -

Architectural style of a Different Era
Being a teacher of social science, is often face a tough time explaining what the Dravidian style of architecture is within the class. The temple is a holy place for Vaishnavism which supports equality, love and prohibits animal sacrifice. The temple’s spire(gopuram)is made entirely from gold plate and is called Ananda Nilayam.
The sanctum has a stunning of the Lord. It has many elegantly carved doorways, shrines and mandapams within the complex. We entered the door through Padi Kavali Maha Dwara which that has a quadrangular base. The temple has numerous stucco figures of gods such as Lakshmi Narasimha, Hanuman and Kevale Narasimha.

The Chana Biryani is a major delicacy of the region. Prepared from white, black and green, it is widely eaten as a salad. Prepared using a combination of chickpea flour, it is used for gluten free dishes. Served as raita with paneer butter masala, it provided a perfect ending to our dinner.
